Third, ask what happens when a batch is out of tolerance—do they rework, refund, or blame the courier? A distributor that can't answer the third question clearly is a risk. I keep a simple rule: if they can't send spec data within 24 hours, they don't get the PO.
4. What should I check in a wheel excavator supplier beyond price?
Lead time reliability, warranty processing speed, and whether they stock replacement wear parts or just sell the initial machine. The hidden cost with wheel excavators isn't the purchase—it's the downtime when a cutting edge cracks and you're waiting six weeks for a replacement from overseas. Ask for their average fulfillment time on wear parts over the last four quarters. If they can't produce it, that tells you something.
5. Can I mix ESCO bucket teeth with generic adapters, or vice versa?
You can, but I'd push back. Adapter geometry varies at the millimeter level. A tooth designed for ESCO adapter specs on a generic adapter will typically fit—until the pin walks out under load. 8. Do I really need a distributor, or can I buy direct?
Depends on volume and support needs. Direct works if you're ordering container quantities and have your own technical team. A distributor earns their margin when they hold stock locally, handle warranty claims, and know which tooth profile matches which machine without a two-day email chain. For most dealers and fleet managers buying under 500 units a year, a good distributor is cheaper in real terms than direct sourcing plus the overhead of managing it. Not always. But usually.
